Tom Morello, the legendary guitarist and songwriter, has unveiled his latest solo rock album, Everyone Gets Everything They Want, on September 25th via Mom + Pop Music. This album marks a significant return to his roots, blending high-octane rock with his unwavering activism. Morello's guitar prowess is on full display, with thunderous riffs, otherworldly solos, and a powerful lyrical vision that confronts fascism, immigrant rights, and global political turmoil.
The album showcases Morello's versatility as a musician, featuring a diverse array of styles and collaborations. Serj Tankian, Kneecap, and Beartooth lend their talents, while Morello's son, Roman, a 15-year-old guitar prodigy, shares writing credits on five songs, adding his own fiery solos and monster riffs. The album's production credits include Tyler Smyth, Carl Restivo, Zakk Cervini, Dan Carey, and Sam Nelson Harris, ensuring a polished and dynamic sound.
Two singles have already been released from the album: 'Date Night' and 'Adjourn It'. 'Date Night' tells the true story of three young Dutch girls who served as spies, saboteurs, and assassins against the Nazis during World War II. The song highlights the sisters Truus and Freddie Oversteegen and their close friend Hannie Schaft, who used their youth and innocent appearances to smuggle weapons, sabotage rail lines, and help Jewish children escape persecution. Most notably, they acted as underground assassins, seducing Nazi officers and luring them into the woods to kill them. Despite Hannie's eventual capture, torture, and death, she never betrayed her comrades.
In 'Adjourn It', Morello and Serj Tankian, along with Roman Morello, condemn the rising tide of racism and anti-immigrant bigotry. The song's video features clips from the film SALT OF THE EARTH (1954), reflecting the theme of resistance in the face of prejudice and injustice. Morello's activism extends beyond the album, as he has a long history of organizing activism-oriented concerts, rallies, and events, and continues to be a leading voice for social justice causes and workers' and immigrants' rights.
Morello's recent tour dates include performances at Cannery Hall in Nashville, TN, on September 18th, and Louder Than Life in Louisville, KY, on September 19th. He will also be performing at the Newport Folk Festival and the Power To The People Festival, a one-day celebration of peace, justice, solidarity, music, and community action, curated by Morello and featuring an extraordinary lineup of artists and activists, including Dave Matthews, Foo Fighters, Bruce Springsteen, Joan Baez, Public Enemy, Killer Mike, Brittany Howard, Dropkick Murphys, Jack Black, Serj Tankian, grandson, The Neighborhood Kids, Taylor Momsen, Matt Cameron, The Linda Lindas, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels, and a DJ set by artist Shepard Fairey.
